$6 Bedroom Aircon

Post by Michael » January 5th, 2008, 7:55 pm

This got such a great response on my Facebook profile that I thought I'd share it with the rest of the world.

Like many houses, ours only has an air conditioner in the living room. The cold air really doesn't make it much further than that room, let alone down a hallway and into the bedrooms. It's also a rental property, so we couldn't exactly go and install an aircon in the bedroom. So over the last few weeks (which have been up around 35-40C) I decided to invent something which is laughably stupid but genius at the same time:

$6 BEDROOM AIRCON

All you need is a roll of 20 garbage bags ($4), scissors and some duct tape ($2). Chop the bottoms off the garbage bags and tape them all together into a long sausage. Then stick one end on the air con and the other end in the room you want to cool down. Make the exit vent as high as possible for best results. :)

It sure ain't pretty, but it does a damn good job, and rolls up (unsurprisingly) to the size of 20 garbage bags when not in use. :D I'd recommend only using it while you're home though, otherwise your house might, explode, or something.

Incredible!

I've been bitching all week about how our main lounge room feels like a freezer whilst my room is a furnace.

Will be attempting this.

Personally I'm finding squeezing the air out of the long tube like sausage meat when putting it away just as rewarding as the cool air in the bedroom. :D

How does $20 + $2 = $6?

Maths aside, I love it.

Brilliant! Belongs firmly in the category, "Why has this never been thought of before?".

Can't believe this still gets love. I think I know why they make Christmas movies now though...
